Why choose 80 GSM instead of a heavier sheet?
The case for 80 GSM is handling and cost, not maximum robustness. It is the sheet you choose when a cover is put up and taken down often, when one person needs to manage it alone, or when a large area has to be covered within a fixed budget. Every increase in GSM adds material — and therefore adds weight, bulk and cost to exactly the same covered area.
Because it carries the least material per square metre of any Double Kissan option, 80 GSM is not the choice where a cover will be left under constant tension, abraded against sharp edges, or exposed continuously for long periods without inspection. Step up to 100 GSM or 120 GSM when the cover will stay in place for extended periods.
Who this option suits
Buyers who prioritise light handling, frequent re-positioning, single-person setup and covering the largest possible area for a given budget.

How 80 GSM compares with its neighbours
| Option | Material difference | What that means in practice |
|---|---|---|
| 80 GSM — this page | — | Lightest of the six standard options. |
| 100 GSM | +25% material | More material per square metre; heavier, bulkier folded and higher cost for the same covered area. |
Material differences above are arithmetic. Measured tear and tensile differences between adjacent options vary by finished product — ask us for the figures specific to the two you are comparing.

Getting the size right
Sizing errors cause more tarpaulin failures than weight does. Take the footprint of what you are covering, add twice the drop you need on each side, then add at least half a metre all round for anchoring — height is consumed on both sides, which is why the answer is usually larger than expected.

Questions about 80 GSM tarpaulin
Is 80 GSM tarpaulin waterproof?
All Double Kissan sheets are laminated woven HDPE, and the lamination is what gives the surface its water-shedding behaviour. The formal waterproof classification and the test method behind it are confirmed with the factory before they are published on this page.
How much does an 80 GSM tarpaulin weigh?
Roughly 80 grams per square metre of finished sheet, so a 10 ft × 12 ft sheet is about 11 square metres and therefore around 0.9 kg before edges, hems and eyelets are accounted for — those add a little extra based on the finished size.
What colours does 80 GSM come in?
Blue, yellow and transparent are the standard Double Kissan colours. Other colours can be produced on custom orders, subject to manufacturing capability.
Can I order 80 GSM in a custom size?
Yes. Custom dimensions, colours and specifications can be manufactured subject to minimum order quantity and a factory capability check. Send your requirement through the custom tarpaulin enquiry form.
Need 80 GSM in quantity or a non-standard size?
Send the dimensions, colour and quantity you need. You will receive a quotation with confirmed finished size, minimum order quantity and lead time.
