Heavy-Duty Tarpaulin for Trucks & Transport

A truck tarpaulin spends its working life under airflow at highway speed, which puts far more sustained stress on the sheet than rain ever does. That changes what matters: how the cover is sized against the body, how evenly the tie-downs share the load, and how well the edges and eyelets hold. Double Kissan supplies HDPE woven sheets in six GSM options, in standard sizes and to custom dimensions for fleet requirements.

The real problem

Most truck tarpaulins do not fail in the middle of the sheet. They fail at an eyelet that took the whole load because the rope pattern was uneven, or along an edge that was left loose and beat against the body for a thousand kilometres. A sheet that is too small gets over-tensioned to reach its anchor points; a sheet that is too large flaps. Both problems trace back to sizing.

How an HDPE tarpaulin helps

Woven HDPE laminated fabric is used across Indian road transport because it delivers a usable balance of weight, cost and weather protection at the large dimensions a truck body requires. A cover a driver can throw over a loaded body single-handed at a roadside halt is a cover that actually gets used.

What decides your specification

  • Body dimensions, not load dimensions

Size against the truck body and the tie-down points you will actually use. Load height varies trip to trip; the body does not.

  • Drop on each side

The cover must reach past the load and down the sides far enough to be secured below the top rail, not just draped over the top.

  • Number and spacing of eyelets

More anchor points spread the load. Eyelet spacing and material specification for Double Kissan sheets are confirmed at order, matched to the size and GSM selected.

  • How often it is removed

A cover taken off and refitted at every drop is handled far more than a long-haul cover fitted once. Frequent handling favours a lighter sheet.

  • Fleet standardisation

Operators running several body sizes often standardise on two or three custom dimensions rather than buying nearest-fit retail sizes for each vehicle.

Measuring and sizing

Measure the body length and width, then the height from the top rail down to your lowest tie-down point on each side. Total width needed is body width plus twice that drop, plus an allowance for the loaded height above the rail. Do the same for length. Round up: a cover slightly too large can be folded and tied, while one slightly too small will be pulled tight against its eyelets on every journey.

The full sizing method, with worked examples

Securing the cover

Rope through every eyelet in a consistent pattern, front to back, so tension is shared evenly rather than concentrated at the corners. Tuck and tie loose edges instead of leaving them free to beat against the body at speed. Check tension at the first halt after loading — sheets settle as the load does, and a cover that was tight at the depot is often slack an hour later.

On GSM for this application

Sizing and tie-down pattern determine truck cover life at least as much as GSM does — get those right first, then choose a weight against how the sheet is handled day to day.

Double Kissan sheets for this job

All six standard GSM options are available in blue, yellow and transparent, and any of them can be produced to a custom size. Where a requirement repeats — a fleet, a site, a yard — made-to-order dimensions usually work out better than the nearest standard size.

Truck & Transport — common questions

What GSM tarpaulin is best for a truck?

In practice, transport buyers weigh how often the cover is removed against how long each sheet needs to last, and many fleets settle on a heavier option for long-haul and a lighter one for multi-drop work.

How do I measure a truck for a tarpaulin?

Measure the body length and width, then the drop from the top rail to your lowest tie-down point on each side. Required width is body width plus both drops plus the load height above the rail; apply the same logic lengthways. Round up rather than down.

Why do truck tarpaulins tear at the eyelets?

Because load concentrates wherever tension is uneven. Using only the corner eyelets, or over-tightening an undersized sheet, puts the entire wind load through a few points. Roping through every eyelet in a consistent pattern spreads it.

Can Double Kissan make truck tarpaulins to a custom size?

Yes. Custom dimensions, colours and quantities are manufactured to order, which is how most fleet buyers standardise across their vehicle types. Minimum quantity and lead time are confirmed at quotation.
