HDPE Tarpaulin for Construction Sites

On a construction site the thing that destroys a tarpaulin is rarely weather — it is contact. Covers get dragged over brick stacks, laid on rebar ends, walked on, and re-tied by different crews every week. Double Kissan supplies HDPE woven tarpaulins in six GSM options and in custom dimensions, so a site can specify covers against the materials and cycles it actually has.

The real problem

Site covers live a harder life than almost any other tarpaulin. Sharp aggregate, exposed reinforcement, timber ends and scaffold couplers all act on the sheet from below while wind works on it from above. Add crews who did not buy the sheet and have no reason to fold it carefully, and a cover that would last a season on a farm may last weeks on a site.

How an HDPE tarpaulin helps

The realistic goal on a site is not an indestructible cover — it is a cover specified and sized so that its predictable wear happens where it is cheapest. Covering the contact surface with a sacrificial sheet, buying to project length rather than to a permanent standard, and sizing generously enough that covers are not stretched over sharp points all extend service life more than a GSM step usually does.

What decides your specification

  • What the sheet touches

A cover resting on rebar ends or broken brick is being cut, not weathered. Where contact is unavoidable, plan for a sacrificial layer underneath.

  • Height and wind exposure

Wind load rises sharply with height. A cover on an upper slab or scaffold face needs far more anchor points than the same sheet at ground level.

  • Project duration, not product lifetime

Site covers are usually specified for a phase. Buying for a six-month phase is a different calculation from buying for a permanent asset.

  • Who handles it

Covers re-tied by rotating crews need simple, obvious anchor patterns. Complex rigging does not survive a shift change.

  • Quantity and reorder

Sites consume covers in batches. Ordering to a fixed specification direct from the manufacturer keeps replacements consistent through the project.

Measuring and sizing

Measure the material stack or opening, then add enough on each side to reach a securable point without stretching the sheet over a sharp edge. Where a cover will span scaffold or an opening, size for the full span plus the fixing overlap on both sides — a cover pulled taut across a gap concentrates every gust into its edges.

Securing the cover

Fix at close, regular intervals rather than at corners; at height, close spacing matters more than rope thickness. Never leave an unsecured edge exposed on a windward face. Where a cover spans an opening, arrange the overlap so water runs off the outer face rather than into the joint, and re-check fixings after any high-wind day rather than on a schedule.

On GSM for this application

On abrasive sites, contact protection and anchor spacing typically extend cover life more than a single GSM step does.

Double Kissan sheets for this job

All six standard GSM options are available in blue, yellow and transparent, and any of them can be produced to a custom size. Where a requirement repeats — a fleet, a site, a yard — made-to-order dimensions usually work out better than the nearest standard size.

Construction — common questions

Which tarpaulin is suitable for construction sites?

What determines site cover life in practice is abrasion from the materials underneath and wind load at height — both of which are addressed by sizing, contact protection and anchor spacing as much as by sheet weight.

How do I stop site tarpaulins tearing so quickly?

Look at what the sheet is resting on. Rebar ends, broken brick and scaffold couplers cut covers from below. A sacrificial layer between the sheet and the material, plus generous sizing so the cover is not stretched over sharp points, usually extends life more than moving up one GSM.

How should tarpaulin be secured at height?

With close, regular fixing intervals rather than corner ties, and with no unsecured edge left on a windward face. Wind load increases substantially with height, so anchor spacing that is adequate at ground level is often not adequate on an upper slab.

Can we order construction tarpaulins in project quantities?

Yes. Bulk supply direct from the manufacturer is available across all six GSM options and in custom dimensions, with quantity and lead time confirmed at quotation.
