Tarpaulin for Home & Monsoon Protection

Household monsoon covering has a different constraint from every industrial use: whoever fits the cover is usually working alone, on a balcony or terrace, without tools and without permanent fixing points. That makes size and handling the deciding factors. Double Kissan sheets are available in blue, yellow and transparent through Amazon and Flipkart for household purchase.

The real problem

Most household tarpaulin disappointment comes from buying the wrong size. A sheet bought to match the width of a balcony has nothing left to secure with, so it is tied at the corners, flaps for a week, and tears at the first ties. The second common mistake is buying a heavier sheet than needed — heavier sheets are harder to handle alone in wind, which is exactly the condition you are fitting them in.

How an HDPE tarpaulin helps

A generously sized lighter sheet that one person can control usually outperforms a heavier one that takes two people to fit. Transparent sheets are useful where a balcony or window cover would otherwise make a room dark, which is a common reason household covers get removed and never put back.

What decides your specification

  • Buy larger than the opening

You need material left over to fold, wrap and tie. A sheet cut to the exact opening has nothing to secure with.

  • One-person handling

You will be fitting this in wind, alone, at height. A sheet you cannot control is a sheet that does not go up.

  • Light, or not

Transparent sheeting keeps a covered balcony usable. Blue and yellow give more privacy and are easier to see.

  • Fixing without drilling

Most homes cannot make permanent fixings. Plan to tie to railings, hooks or weights before you buy.

  • Storage between seasons

A cover that dries and folds compactly is one you will actually reuse next monsoon.

Measuring and sizing

Measure the opening or area, then add at least 30 to 45 cm on every side for wrapping and tying. For a balcony 3 m wide and 2 m high, look for a sheet nearer 4 m × 3 m than 3 m × 2 m. If you are between two available sizes, take the larger one — surplus material can always be folded, and folded edges are stronger than stretched ones.

Securing the cover

Wrap the edge around a railing and tie back through the eyelets rather than tying directly at the edge, so no single eyelet takes the strain. Tie every eyelet along an exposed edge, not just the corners. Leave a small gap at the bottom for air to escape rather than sealing the cover completely, which reduces the ballooning effect in gusts. Dry the sheet before folding it away at the end of the season.

On GSM for this application

For household use, sizing and securing method matter more than sheet weight.

Double Kissan sheets for this job

All six standard GSM options are available in blue, yellow and transparent, and any of them can be produced to a custom size. Where a requirement repeats — a fleet, a site, a yard — made-to-order dimensions usually work out better than the nearest standard size.

Home & Monsoon — common questions

What size tarpaulin do I need for a balcony?

Measure the opening and add at least 30 to 45 cm on every side for wrapping and tying. A 3 m × 2 m balcony opening is better served by a sheet closer to 4 m × 3 m, because material at the edge is what you secure with.

Which tarpaulin colour is best for a home balcony?

Transparent keeps the space light and is often chosen for balconies that are still used during the monsoon. Blue and yellow give more privacy and are more visible. All three are standard Double Kissan colours.

How do I fix a tarpaulin without drilling?

Wrap the edge around a railing and tie back through the eyelets, using every eyelet along an exposed edge rather than the corners alone. Weights can hold a lower edge where tying is not possible.

Where can I buy Double Kissan tarpaulin for home use?

Through our official Amazon store and on Flipkart, where retail sizes and current pricing are listed. For larger or non-standard sizes, send a custom enquiry directly.
