Why step up from 160 GSM?
The step from 160 to 180 GSM is a refinement rather than a category change. Buyers make it for one of two reasons: a specific procurement standard that names 180 GSM, or hard experience that a 160 GSM cover in their particular conditions did not last as long as they needed. If neither applies, 160 GSM is usually the more economical choice for the same job.
Be honest about the marginal gain. A 12.5% material increase is real but modest — it is not the difference between a cover failing and surviving. Where a job genuinely demands the maximum, 200 GSM is the option to specify rather than settling in between.
Who this option suits
Buyers working to a written specification that names 180 GSM, and repeat buyers stepping up after a lighter sheet fell short in their specific conditions.

How 180 GSM compares with its neighbours
| Option | Material difference | What that means in practice |
|---|---|---|
| 160 GSM | −11.1% material | Lighter to handle and lower cost per square metre; less material available to resist wear. |
| 180 GSM — this page | — | Second heaviest standard option. |
| 200 GSM | +11.1% material | More material per square metre; heavier, bulkier folded and higher cost for the same covered area. |
Material differences above are arithmetic. Measured tear and tensile differences between adjacent options vary by finished product — ask us for the figures specific to the two you are comparing.

Colour is a variant of the same product rather than a different grade. Custom colours can be produced on made-to-order runs subject to minimum quantity.
Getting the size right
Sizing errors cause more tarpaulin failures than weight does. Take the footprint of what you are covering, add twice the drop you need on each side, then add at least half a metre all round for anchoring — height is consumed on both sides, which is why the answer is usually larger than expected.

Questions about 180 GSM tarpaulin
What is the difference between 160 GSM and 180 GSM tarpaulin?
180 GSM carries 12.5% more material per square metre. It is a smaller step than most other transitions in the range — ask us for comparative tear and tensile figures specific to these two options.
Is 180 GSM worth the extra cost over 160 GSM?
It depends on whether your requirement names a specific GSM and on whether a lighter sheet has already proven insufficient in your conditions. Where neither is true, 160 GSM generally gives better value for the same coverage.
Is 180 GSM available in transparent?
Blue, yellow and transparent are the standard Double Kissan colours across the range — see the colour availability note on this page for which GSM options currently stock each one.
Do you supply 180 GSM for export orders?
Yes. All six standard GSM options can be produced for export, with packing and documentation prepared to the buyer's requirement. Export capability details are confirmed at enquiry.
Need 180 GSM in quantity or a non-standard size?
Send the dimensions, colour and quantity you need. You will receive a quotation with confirmed finished size, minimum order quantity and lead time.
