When is a heavier sheet the right choice?
The jump from 120 to 160 GSM is the largest single step in the range — a 33% increase in material. That is the step buyers take when a cover has stopped being temporary: when it stays on through a season, holds tension against wind, or protects something whose replacement cost dwarfs the difference in sheet price.
The cost of that substance is handling. A 160 GSM sheet at a large size is a two-person job to spread and fold, and it takes up noticeably more space in storage. If a cover is moved daily, the lighter options remain the practical choice.
Who this option suits
Buyers protecting higher-value goods, covers that stay in position for extended periods, and businesses standardising on one heavier specification across a fleet or site.

How 160 GSM compares with its neighbours
| Option | Material difference | What that means in practice |
|---|---|---|
| 120 GSM | −25% material | Lighter to handle and lower cost per square metre; less material available to resist wear. |
| 160 GSM — this page | — | First of the heavy-weight options. |
| 180 GSM | +12.5% material | More material per square metre; heavier, bulkier folded and higher cost for the same covered area. |
Material differences above are arithmetic. Measured tear and tensile differences between adjacent options vary by finished product — ask us for the figures specific to the two you are comparing.

Getting the size right
Sizing errors cause more tarpaulin failures than weight does. Take the footprint of what you are covering, add twice the drop you need on each side, then add at least half a metre all round for anchoring — height is consumed on both sides, which is why the answer is usually larger than expected.

Questions about 160 GSM tarpaulin
What GSM tarpaulin is considered heavy duty?
There is no single industry definition, which is why the term appears on products of very different weights. Within the Double Kissan range, 160, 180 and 200 GSM are the heavier half, with 160 GSM carrying double the material per square metre of our lightest option.
Is 160 GSM better than 120 GSM?
It carries about 33% more material per square metre, which is an advantage where wear and sustained tension matter and a disadvantage where the sheet has to be handled frequently. Neither is better in the abstract — it depends on the job.
Can I get 160 GSM in a large custom size?
Custom dimensions are manufactured to order within the limits of our loom and lamination equipment — send the size you need and we will check it against that capability.
How is 160 GSM supplied for bulk orders?
Bulk orders are produced to your specified size, colour and quantity and packed for dispatch. Packing configuration, minimum order quantity and lead time are confirmed at quotation.
Need 160 GSM in quantity or a non-standard size?
Send the dimensions, colour and quantity you need. You will receive a quotation with confirmed finished size, minimum order quantity and lead time.
